ITA 3100 is designed to develop fluency and accuracy in the use of the spoken language through intensive practice, class discussion, and presentations on current topics. Themes for discussion are both extemporaneous and planned. Students are expected to prepare for the assigned themes in advance. In addition, students will develop vocabulary and oral comprehension through media and intensive reading.

The Basic Italian courses are designed to provide students with the ability to write and speak Italian. They are designed for students not interested in obtaining a degree in the Romance Languages but who wish to pursue language studies as part of their education at Wayne State.

Italian is one of the Romance languages. It resembles Latin in terms of vocabulary and is Italian is also written using the Latin alphabet. It has a distinctive stress and retains the contrast between short and long consonants which was present in Latin. The Italian course will teach you the basic rules, words, grammars and help you speak Italian fast and fluently.
