Basic human anatomy and physiology with clinical emphasis, specifically for pre-nursing students. Lectures are closely
tied to laboratory activities. Computerized simulations (e.g. ADAM) are sued to teach and test anatomy.

The course begins with basic medical asepsis, using the OSHA Guidelines. Students learn how to protect themselves and patients as they perform the basic clinical tasks. In this course they will learn what vitals (cardinal) signs are, how to take them, how to obtain medical history and properly chart information. Patient, and room preparations, assists doctor with routine examinations, medical emergencies, and CPR.

The Clinical Medical Assisting program at SJVC offers extensive back office training to provide support to physicians and direct patient care in a variety of medical settings. Training includes a balance of classroom instruction with laboratory experience to create the best opportunity for student understanding and performance. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) and National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) exams for licensure.
