This course introduces modeling as a tool for decision-making and planning. Emphasis is on understanding the mechanics of various models and their applications to business. Topics include: optimization models, network models, inventory control, waiting lines, decision theory and multi-criteria decision models. Large-scale problem solving is facilitated through software applications.

This class provides an introduction to business analysis using standards based notation and methodology, specifically Use-Cases and Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams. This class is useful to any analyst that is responsible for gathering requirements and/or representing exiting or desired business processes. This course offers plenty of hands-on opportunities.

Students will be using a word processor (MS-Word) and UML tool such as Visio, Star UML, or Rational Rose.

The purpose of this class is to objectively present the Computer Associates product, ADS/0 and how to apply it to a basic application. The seminar is designed to provide an understanding of how ADS/0 works so that students can write the most effective dialogs. Application systems analysts & database analysts responsible for organizing and documenting logical data structures to satisfy user data requirements should take this class.
