The Electro-Mechanical program is a marriage of Columbus State’s Mechanical Engineering Technology and Electronics Engineering Technology programs. The skills electro-mechanical technicians possess are used in virtually every industry–from manufacturing, to environmental control, to food and pharmaceutical production, to power plants. Mechanical disciplines work in many industries that vary by industry and function. Some specialties include applied mechanics, computer-aided-design and manufacturing; energy systems; material handling systems; pressure vessel and piping systems; heating, refrigeration and air condition systems.

Technical Certificate programs provide education in conceptual and technical skills for specific occupations. Each program contains a sequence of required courses in a recognized concentration within one of the programs at the College. The program content is designed to develop competency in the comprehension of general and technical skills. Certificate programs require mastery of basic reading, writing, mathematical and algebraic skills.

The mechanical engineering technology program will educate skilled technicians who will work with engineers and other technicians to implement mechanical designs and to support engineering processes such as collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and troubleshooting mechanical systems. Students will develop basic mechanical design skills and the appropriate science and math knowledge to enter the workforce and/or transfer to a four-year engineering technology program.
