In this course, students continue to develop their typographic skills. All type fundamentals are discussed, and students design letterforms, learn to use type appropriately, learn advanced typesetting techniques, experiment with the effects that can be achieved through use of type manipulation software, and begin to arrange type using electronic layout and design software.

In this course, students use their advance knowledge and creative skills in exploring and developing new typographic solutions in the visual design field. Students will use the design process to explore new typographical direction, methodology, application to express their intellectual and visual aesthetic knowledge. It is a comprehensive project where students can explores type as word-image art and by mixing typography, calligraphy and art and design concepts with industry standard software.

Typography plays a major role in all graphic design, from use in still image creation to animated text in video and websites. After a series of typographic exercises, including an introduction to the major type families, letter forms, and type history, assignments are given that encourage an exploration of working with type for legibility and creative expression.
