This course will introduce you to creative writing, from generating ideas to revising drafts. Find your voice and develop your craft through in-class and at-home writing exercises, and through discussions of your own and your fellow students�written work. You will also study canonical and contemporary models drawn from fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction, and will be encouraged to try your hand at each of these genres.

This course offers an opportunity for students to analyze a diverse selection of literature as well as to develop extensively their own creative writing talents. Students are required to write a play, a selection of various styles of poetry, a short story, and other types of compositions. Emphasis is placed on the development of original ideas, mechanics, vocabulary, and writing styles.

This is an introductory course for people who want to improve their creative writing skills and become more comfortable with all stages of the writing process. We examine fiction and nonfiction, with instruction on developing ideas for new or existing work, structuring narratives, and addressing issues of craft, style, and audience.
