The Carpentry Course is comprised of 19 comprehensive lessons. They are easy to follow, yet challenging and stimulating at the same time. Each lesson begins with a subject matter preview and objectives, an introductory note from your instructor and a vocabulary builder of new words and terms.

Next comes the reading assignment. Practice exercises help you check and review what you’ve learned. At the end of the lesson is an open-book exam, which you may take online.

This course is designed to familiarize the students with the various aspects and procedures of carpentry and roofing. The course will also introduce the students to the language of carpentry and roofing and help them understand the basic terminology of the same.
Throughout this course, students will learn about carpentry requirements such as platform and balloon framing, different types of roofs, roofing materials and the 2003 Supplement.

Instruction includes the proper use of measuring tools, an introduction to current building codes, and a review of applicable blueprint reading and math skills. Labs include the proper use of hand and power tools, layout procedures, building material applications and rough framing.
