Prepares students to enter the field of healthcare as a medical assistant. Medical assistants perform routine administrative and clinical duties in a healthcare practice and report directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner. The certificate provides an option for students interested in patient care who do not want a career requiring a two- or four-year degree.

The Clinical Medical Assisting program at SJVC offers extensive back office training to provide support to physicians and direct patient care in a variety of medical settings. Training includes a balance of classroom instruction with laboratory experience to create the best opportunity for student understanding and performance. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) and National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) exams for licensure.

SJVC’s Clinical and Administrative Medical Assisting (CAMA) program trains students in both administrative and clinical medical procedures for medical offices and specialty clinics. Students who complete the Certificate in Medical Insurance Coder/Biller will be eligible to take the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) Certificate Coding Associate (CCA) exam.
