Introduction to Italian through multiple approaches with emphasizing speaking and understanding. Practice in conversational Italian and aural comprehension on topics of daily interest. Practice in writing basic sentences and small simple paragraphs on relevant topics and reading short paragraphs.

The Italian section of the Romance Languages Department offers courses in Italian language, literature, and culture. In addition to focusing on developing students’ fluency in Italian, the department provides students with a broad understanding of the cultures and literatures of Italy and Italian America through a curriculum designed to prepare students either for international work or for graduate study.

Italian is one of the Romance languages. It resembles Latin in terms of vocabulary and is Italian is also written using the Latin alphabet. It has a distinctive stress and retains the contrast between short and long consonants which was present in Latin. The Italian course will teach you the basic rules, words, grammars and help you speak Italian fast and fluently.
