This course provides an overview of the major concepts and questions in the field of social psychology. Students have the opportunity to discuss and think critically about a variety of exciting issues, such as the impact of social perceptions on individual behavior, factors that influence how people see themselves, romantic relationships, aggression, and the act of helping others. (4 credits)

This course is a study of social, group, and multicultural factors affecting individual behavior. Attention is given to the development of attitudes, leadership roles, group thinking, sources of conflict, altruism, attraction, effects of competition and cooperation, analysis and evaluation of propaganda techniques, and the influence of mass communication on social awareness and control.

This course covers the basic theoretical foundations and recurrent themes in social psychology, including attitudes, stereotyping, conformity, power, aggression, prosocial behavior, the social self, emotions, group dynamics, and inter-group relations. Emphasis is on recent empirical and theoretical developments and includes models of social cognition that are a focus of contemporary social psychological theories.
