Via image presentations and essays, students are introduced to contemporary artists who use drawing as their primary medium. Students create works on paper for critique that reflect the diversity of themes, formats, and materials being practiced today. (4 credits)

This course is an introduction to statistical methods used in biological and medical research. Elementary probability theory, basic concepts of statistical inference, regression and correlation methods, analysis of variance, and study design are covered. Emphasis on applications to medical problems.

This intensive professional public speaking course is designed to help students craft and deliver powerful speeches that leave a lasting impression. Students explore the specific verbal and nonverbal public speaking techniques that professional speakers use to create strong impressions, sell their perspectives, and inspire their audiences to act. An introduction to oral and written Spanish for students with little or no background in the language, this course encourages students to communicate with each other and the instructor in simple language using role-play and other interpersonal activities. Students read short pieces on modern Spanish culture and write compositions on subjects of personal interest. Grammar includes present and past tenses. (4 credits)

This is a basic course for students with little or no background in Russian. Students receive intensive speaking practice in grammar structures using naturally occurring conversational patterns and regular written exercises for reinforcement. (2 credits)
