Become familiar with basic French. Emphasis is on pronunciation, reading and conversational skills. The present tense of regular and some common irregular verbs is introduced. Learn how to construct sentences in the affirmative, negative and interrogative forms and use them in their conversation. Textbook required for first class.

Prepares beginning-level students for cross-cultural communication through reading, writing, listening, speaking, and culture; provides connections to other disciplines through the study of the target language and develops awareness of its culture and art.

Students learn basic French grammar, vocabulary, and conversational skills through an innovative web-based, interactive classroom format. This course features one-to-one conversations with the instructor, and small-group discussions with other students using the conference program Elluminate. Assessment is by portfolio and conversations with the instructor. (4 credits)
