The Medical Insurance Billing Assistant Program has been developed for individuals who wish to work with patient records in a physician’s office or major clinic. Using the Medisoft Advanced system, the student will prepare a bill for submission to insurance companies, managed care companies, as well as other entities. Also covered are setting up appointments and processing payments.

Provides skills and knowledge in the medical records field for ICD-9 and CPT coding of insurance forms for reimbursement of medical services. A required course in the Medical Coding curriculum.

Students who complete the Certificate in Medical Insurance Coder/Biller will be eligible to take the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) Certificate Coding Associate (CCA) exam.

Medical Insurance Coder/Biller is a selective major. Specific requirements must be met in order to declare a Medical Insurance Coder/Biller major. For additional information contact the Health Information Technology Department.
