This web seminar on brushed DC motor basics is part 1 of a four part series of web seminars that will go into motor control drive topologies, pulse width modulation ( PWM ), and the new enhanced PWM. Brushed DC Motor Basics will go from the basic parts of a brushed DC motor and how they work to how do they compare to other types of motors.

When you complete this lesson, you will be able to describe the basic components of a DC motor and a DC generator, and be prepared to conduct basic maintenance and inspections of each.

When you complete this lesson, you will understand how DC generators and motors convert energy from one form to another. In addition, you will be able to describe basic DC generator and motor winding configurations, and identify uses of each type.

When you complete this lesson, you will be able to describe how current, voltage, resistance, and power flow through series and parallel DC circuits. You will also be able to calculate values of current, voltage, resistance, and power flow in DC series and parallel circuits.
Finally, you will be able to explain some techniques for evaluating DC circuit performance.
