Students will examine the development of new media, explore its theoretical, social, and practical implications, and examine new media through and relative to the writing process in order to understand and communicate using new media and technology.

Animators and other digital media artists working in linear structures explore the inter-relationship of sound and imagery through extensive experimentation and analysis of audio-visual media. Using sound as an expressive medium, students will combine such elements as effects, music and dialog to complement linear imagery.

Production of short digital videos, from conceptual inception to completion, is the focus of this course. Through hands-on training in digital capture, sound recording, and editing exercises, students will have the opportunity to explore both narrative and non-linear approaches to time-based media. Students will also be introduced to applications in commercial, photojournalism, and fine art contexts.

This course explores vocal pedagogies while taking the student through alignment, breath, support and vocalization from character voices to heightened text and from stage to studio. The student utilizes the International Phonetic Alphabet to explores dialect and accent use in performance. Sound files of voice-over and animation character work are recorded for the students use on their website or industry demo.
