The Motion Graphics Animation emphasis within the Multimedia Graphic Design Department prepares students for to work in digital 3-D animation modeling environments. Students combine traditional artistic skills of drawing, design and sculpture with a touch of video, lighting and special effects training. The student combines these skills with their expertise in object modeling and computer generated animation techniques to produce complex 3-D animation projects.

This program prepares you to plan, analyze and create visual solutions to communication challenges. The combination of the study of theory and a mastery of in-studio visual communication methods enables you to get messages across using a variety of methods such as color, type, illustration, photography, animation and various print and layout techniques.

This course covers the basic concepts of 3D modeling and animation. Students will build a solid foundation and understanding of the basic tools of 3D software. Modeling, animation, lighting, texture mapping, and rendering are introduced in a production setting toward the goal of developing a portfolio project.

Students will learn the industry uses of 2D, vector animation for commercial programming. Topics include: pipeline, software motion tactics, effects tools, nested symbols and using Action Script for web interactivity. Students will draw storyboards, make animatics, and use sound with traditional animation techniques in the vector software.

This class will focus on character animation and rendering in Maya, including Flexor animation, skinning, writing expressions and using the hardware and software rendering capabilities. Students will also write MEL scripts to gain a deeper understanding of the animation workflow in Maya. The emphasis of this course is on character animation and rendering.
