Outdoor Studies School: Alaska Pacific University Venue: Anchorage Tel.: 1.800.252.7528 Our expeditions will teach you how to work. We find that students who can handle the wet and cold, work in small groups to manage the terrain, assess the risks associated with river crossings, and camp thoughtfully in bear country, are the same students who excel in statistics, research methods, and recreation planning—and later become the graduates that employers seek. |
Mountain Instructor Format: Else School: National Outdoor Leadership School Venue: Anchorage Tel.: (800) 710-NOLS Students with a background in glacier mountaineering will be best suited to this Instructor Course. You’ll explore either the Alaska Range or the Chugach Range, both classic Alaskan mountain ranges offering plenty of glacier travel opportunities, time to practice and hone your wilderness living and teaching skills, and the possibility of technical climbing and peak ascents. |
Backpacking Format: Else School: National Outdoor Leadership School Venue: Anchorage Tel.: (800) 710-NOLS An Alaska Backpacking course is a wilderness expedition in every sense, allowing you to explore beautiful landscapes in either the Talkeetna Mountains, the Alaska Range, or Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, where the trees disappear and the land stretches into alpine tundra plains with a backdrop of rugged and heavily eroded mountains. Up here where it’s still light at midnight, you’ll follow the tracks of the seasonal caribou migration.
