This course will expose the students to the basic concepts of all sculpture: structure, form and space. Employing and blending coil building, pinch, carving and slab building, students can work figuratively, making masks, heads, animals and narrative imagery or they can work abstractly, adding shapes and forms or building abstract structures. This class will focus on the portrait bust. Along with developing an understanding of the formal qualities of the skull and the muscles of the face, neck and shoulders, this class will concentrate efforts on developing expressive modeling techniques.

This course is a continued examination of the form and structure of the human figure for intermediate and advanced students. Students will create a life-size figure in water clay over one semester. Accurate rendering and personal expression are developed and emphasized.

Students gain a limited edition, production and industrial manufacturing techniques, while expressing fashion jewelry concerns. The techniques covered include soldering, fabrication, stone setting, texturing, patination and casting. Students are encouraged to develop thematically related series.

This course offers students an environment to address and experiment with the problems and solutions in fabrication and construction. Students will work on independent projects and conduct critiques and discussions.
