Introduce yourself to the world of 3D modeling with Alias Wavefront Maya, the leading professional-level 3D animation software today, and the only software to win an Academy Award for its contribution to the film industry. We start by exploring the nature of 3D space and graphics and the 3D animation workflow. Then we’ll create simple Maya models while learning the techniques of polygonal modeling.

This class will focus on character animation and rendering in Maya, including Flexor animation, skinning, writing expressions and using the hardware and software rendering capabilities. Students will also write MEL scripts to gain a deeper understanding of the animation workflow in Maya. The emphasis of this course is on character animation and rendering.

This course covers the basic concepts of 3D modeling and animation. Students will build a solid foundation of the basic tools of 3D software, and gain basic knowledge of file management, the operating system environment and production practices. Modeling, animation, lighting, texture mapping and rendering are introduced.

Maya’s Modules to Control Specific Animation Effects
Maya comes with additional modules to control specific animation effects. Some of these include Maya Fur, Artisan, and PaintFX. This course imparts the knowledge necessary to give animations a little extra touch. Sample effects include how to make vines grow up the side of a building and styling hair on an animal.
