This hike, led by Dr. Martha Yates, passes through some of the most stunning petroglyphs in New Mexico. Mesa Prieta is a major geological basalt formation just north of San Juan Pueblo in northern New Mexico, which overlooks the Rio Grande. Along the eastern slope is the petroglyph site, on private land, containing more than 6,000 petroglyphs carved into its massive basalt boulders.
