This course presents estate planning and the taxation of estates for the purposes of financial planning. Topics covered by this course include the tax implications of gifts and bequests, federal estate tax, and revocable and irrevocable trusts, to include bypass and marital deduction trusts.

It’s impossible to plan for the avoidance, minimization, or deferral of taxation without a thorough understanding of income tax law. This course examines the federal income tax system with particular emphasis on individual, sole proprietorship, partnership, and LLC/corporation (including S corporation) taxation.

In this module, participants study risk-return, debt and equity securities, and options and futures contracts. The course uses a Portfolio Project to evaluate the array of financial instrument investment alternatives and their risk profile. Participants will also analyze expected return characteristics, individually and in combination within a portfolio. Different investment strategies and valuation models are also utilized to understand basic investment principles and practices.

This course introduces the financial planning profession, the concepts of the time value of money, insurance planning, and the practice of personal financial planning by professional planners. A financial calculator is required for this course.
